no it's not called the M1, because that is kept for the Original M1 Supercar in BMW's history. It's called a more catchy BMW 1 Series M Coupe.
BMW used the original 1988 M3 for inspiration. Which begs the question, what is the current M3 inspired by? Despite this, the 1 Series M is still bigger and heavier than it's Great Granduncle. It's also slightly bigger than the 135i counterpart, but about 35kg less
These weight savings are mixed with an uprated Twin-Turbo 3.0 Litre Inline 6. It pumps out an immense 335hp. BMW estimate that this engine will take the car from 0-100km/h in 4.9 seconds.
I think one promising aspect of the car is that it only comes with a 6 speed manual. In a world of bulletproof Automatics and Blistering fast Double Clutch gearboxes it's nice to see BMW leave those all out. It hopefully shows that this car is more a pure pleasurer, rather than a computerized speed hound.
BMW hasn't said anything about prices. But expect to see it in dealers in the Spring.
