Finally Some Modern Connectivity | Apple Introduces CarPlay

Remember the iPod connector? Oh yeah... Well it's successor is finally here.

At the Geneva Auto Show, Apple has introduced what it calls a smarter, safer and more fun way to use your iPhone in the car. It'll certainly be neat to see Apple's iOS interface on the screens of new cars. Users will be able to access their Music, Maps and Phone through either the touchscreen, knobs or controls. Though Siri will be the predominant way of interacting with most CarPlay's features, which include Messages as well.

One thing I like is how this will bring Navigation to cars that might otherwise have charged thousands of dollars for the feature. Though, Apple Maps has a reputation of getting lost...

Unfortunately CarPlay will only work on iPhones with the Lightning connector (iPhone 5 and up). Fortunately BMW Group, Ferrari, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai Motor Company, Jaguar Land Rover, Kia Motors, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi Motors, Nissan Motor Company, PSA Peugeot Citroën, Subaru, Suzuki, Toyota Motor Corp. and Volvo will carry it. Which is basically everyone.

Whether it will work well or not is anyone's guess, but it's interesting to see a tech company infiltrate the dashboard in this way.
