Smooth as SiLK

Here in North America roadsters have always had an air of California to them. The perfect car for the empty nesting housewife of Orange County or their daughter. The Mercedes SLK was a perfect fit.

Well a new one has just been announced and it is a handsome looking brute. And it's a bit more brutal than before. I'd drive it with the top down and no shame. There are elements of the Mercedes SLS in the front of the new SLK. Despite the fact that Mercedes say it resembles the old 190SL from the 50s. Sure it does, in the same way my my face resembles Elvis'.

No matter. Inside the dash looks similar to the SLS as well. And Mercedes is launching a new feature that should brighten you up on a grey day. It's called MAGIC SKY CONTROL and allows you to adjust the darkness of the glass panel in the roof.

Mercedes say that for Canada only the 3.5 Litre V6 will be on offer initially. It's good for 305hp and a 0-100 time of 5.6 seconds. Nothing special there but it puts this car right next to the BMW Z4 sDrive 35i.

I've always liked the SLK, and I like this one even more. It caught my eye I have to admit. But remembering the Z4 then tears me apart. That too is a very good looking roadster. It also looks so much lighter on it's feet. Before the choice used to be easy. Now, there's a challenge.
